Ivan Alekhin is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London (RAM) where he studied with William Bennett and Clare Southworth.
He started his music education in Russia at the age of 6 in the Junior Department of Moscow’s Conservatory. His flute solo performances in Russia were combined with various international masterclasses and festivals in Hungary, Norway and the United Kingdom.
After his graduation he was accepted to study at Chetham’s School of Music with a full scholarship in the class of Laura Jellicoe. As a member of the Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra, he has performed in concert venues such as the Bridgewater Hall, Royal Northern College of Music, Cadogan Hall and the Royal Festival Hall, with the latter of these performances being under the direction of the distinguished conductor Paul Mann.
At RAM, Ivan combined his flute playing with studies in composition and conducting. He was also granted the opportunity to have second study piano lessons with Mark Racz.
He is also a founding member of the Gilbert Trio(Flute Cello and Piano) named in honour of the legendary flautist and teacher Geoffrey Gilbert and enjoys regular performances with them in London and Manchester.
During his years at RAM he has been privileged to work with internationally renowned flute professors such as William Bennett, Michael Cox, Emily Beynon, Katherine Bryan, Paul Edmund-Davies, Thomas Robertello and Katherine Baker.
Ivan has also performed in the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra and Concert Orchestra for such conductors as Jac van Steen, Edward Gardner, Trevor Pinnock and Robin Ticciati. He had participated in rehearsals with Constella Orchestra at the Royal Opera House with Leo Geyer and Philharmonia Orchestra with Yuri Timirkanov.
He was awarded an entrance scholarship to study at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) where he will be taking his Postgraduate course in the class of Richard Davis starting in September 2015.
At RNCM Ivan actively continued his studies in conducting with Mark Heron and composition with Adam Gorb.
He enjoys regular performances with ensembles and orchestras within and outside the college and had an opportunity to have coachings with members of Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Netherlands Wind Ensemble. He worked and performed with such conductors as Mark Heron, Clark Rundell, Philippe Bach and Sir Mark Elder.
His passion for chamber music only thrived at RNCM which lead to special performances at the John Ryland’s Library in the event marking 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and the Lasham Chamber Music Festival in Birmingham.
He was selected to take part in the New Music North West Festival where he had an opportunity to work with and perform for Sir Harrison Birtwistle. In February 2016 Ivan was selected to perform as a part of the same festival in London, which lead to his debut performance at Wigmore Hall.
He is one of the founding members of a student reading orchestra at RNCM which furthers his development as a musician and conductor.
